Coverage Area

The South Sherman Fire District covers over 387 square miles of area in southern Sherman County, Oregon. Sherman County is the driest County in the State of Oregon and is known for our steep canyons, rolling wheat fields and the fact that we are surrounded on three sides by rivers, the Columbia to the north, the John Day to the east and the Deschutes to the west.

Personnel

South Sherman is operated by Chief Bert Norris and overseen by the Board of Directors. The District is all volunteer and consists of approximately 10 members of the local community. The District Administrative Office is combined with City Hall.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors are elected by the Citizens of the Fire District. Each position on the Board serves a 4-year term.

Chief

The Chief of the South Sherman Fire District is Bert Norris. Chief Norris has been a member of the District for many years and is a true asset to both the Community and the entire Sherman County Emergency Services Team.

Vehicles/Apparatus

There current Fire Protection Fleet consists of two Water Tenders, one 6x6 Heavy Brush Truck, one town Engine, one rapid response/command truck, and three type 6 Wildland Brush Trucks.
