Burn Regulations

Backyard burning will be allowed during daylight hours within the fire district without a permit. The size of the fire shall be no greater in diameter than 6 feet and not over 4 feet in height. During the fire season open burning may be canceled for a period of time. Please read the Burn Regulations below if you plan on any burning.

Burn Regulations:

NO PERMIT REQUIRED FOR RECREATIONAL FIRES:

RESIDENTIAL BURN REGULATIONS:

  1. Complete burn permit online, or at the main station in Grass Valley.
  2. No tires.
  3. No wiring.
  4. No waste matter that causes or creates a dense smoke or odor.
  5. Bucket, shovel or fire tools are required.
  6. Adequate water to keep fire under control.
  7. Must be attended until no more sparks exist, or completely out.
  8. Traffic hazards are the responsibility of person burning.
  9. Not allowed during night-time hours.

AGRICULTURAL BURN REGULATIONS:

  1. Complete burn permit online, or at the main station in Grass Valley.
  2. No tires.
  3. No wiring.
  4. No waste matter that causes or creates a dense smoke or odor.
  5. A minimum fire break of 20 feet (disc line).
  6. Adequate water to keep fire under control.
  7. Must be attended until no more sparks exist, or completely out.
  8. Traffic hazards are the responsibility of person burning.
  9. Permits must be completed forty-eight (48) hours prior to first burn.
  10. Not allowed during night-time hours.
Burn Permits ARE FREE.
Residential burn permits are valid for one (1) year.

Agricultural burn permits are valid for thirty (30) days, and must include approximate acreage and location of each burn.
